Wizkid " A.Y.O" Honest Album Review

Wizkid "Ayo" Album Review

Wizkid was meant to drop his album on the 23th September 2014 but as of last night, his sophomore album "Ayo" was supposedly leaked on iTunes. Now the probability of this claim being true is quite minimal. Wizkid Ayodeji Balogun has kept fans in suspense for a very long time by postponing his album release with each passing month. This review is being posted www.afmblogs.com and as such is intellectual property.

Was the wait truly worth it?

Jaiye Jaiye ft. Femi Kuti (prod. Sarz)
AFM RATING: 8.2/10

This song shouldn't be new to anybody. It has been enjoying major airplay with a beautiful video to ice the cake. I can tell the song was inspired by the late Fela Kuti seeing the reference to the line "If you call her woman, african woman no go gree (she go say I be lady)". With a sweet touch of Femi Kuti saxophone expertise? It's a solid 8.2/10 for me.

Show You The Money (prod. Shizzi)
AFM RATING: 7.4/10
I wasn't feeling this song when it first came out. But like 80% of Wizkid's songs, it grew on me. The production was standard. Nevetheless… The lyrics weren't new to me. It gets a 7.4/10 because of the production.

In My Bed (prod. Uhuru)
AFM RATING: 8.1/10

One of Mafikizolo's loop was definitely sampled. But this song is very different than the usual Komole I hear from Wizkid. I'm totally impressed with the hook. And you know I'm a lover of catchy hooks. And as expected Shoki is the adequate pirouette for this song. 8.1/10 for the man dem!

Mummy Mi (prod. Spellz)
AFM RATING: 8.0/10

I'm definitely at a point in my life where I can recognize Spellz' handwork anywhere. This song is mellifluous. At some point I was wondering if this could be the "sweet mother" hit of the year but that would be an insult to Prince Nico Mbarga. It's a 8.0/10 for my humble self.

Ojuelegba (prod. Legendurybeatz)
AFM RATING: 7.5/10

I think I like the jazz flow on this song. Nevertheless, it has to grow on me. It's a smooth jam but there is an element missing in my opinion. But…7.5/10 is the rating.

Kind Of Love (prod. Del B)
AFM RATING: 7.8/10

Sweet! I heard some Zulezoo in here. A beautiful song for a wedding, romantic summer date.  Starboy did well on this.  Wetin come dey there again? 7.8/10 jor.

On Top Matter (prod. Del B)
AFM RATiNG: 7.9/10

Just  like JAIYE JAIYE, this tune shouldn't be new to you or me. Oshe…I'm leaving it at a 7.9/10 rating.

In Love  ft. Seyi Shay
AFM RATING: 7.5/10

For You ft. Akon (prod. Uhuru)
AFM RATING: 8.0/10

Akon did this song justice. I wasn't really anticipating a great collabo from these two… But this sounds a lot better  than I expected. I hear the "Happiness" beat by Mafikizolo and May D. But that's the producer's cup of creativity. Dope production. It's a 8.0/10 rating.

Dutty Whine ft. Banky W (Prod. Legendary beatz)
AFM RATING: 7.8/10

Anything that has to do with dutty whine I must find Banky W there. Nevertheless this is an interesting track. I'm not a dancehall/dutty whine type of person but Banky's part kindled my interest in this song. It's a 7.8/10 for me.

Kilofe (prod. Sarz)
AFM Rating: 7.9/10

Mad production and an epitome of creativity on this album. Sarz needs an award. It's 7.9/10.

Omalicha ( prod. Legendary Beatz)
AFM RATING: 7.9/10

My second favorite on this album. The melody gets your attention… Well it got mine. So! Na 7.9/10 I go give this one.

Bombay ft. Phyno (prod. Dr Frabz)
AFM RATING: 4.0/10

I didn't understand this song the moment it came out. And I still don't understand it. My least favorite on the album… It's noisy. It's a 4.0/10

One Question  (prod. Dr Frabz)
AFM RATING: 7.2/10

Celebrate (prod. Shizzi)
AFM RATING: 7.2/10

Third favorite track on the album. I like the production, nice message… No repetitive lyrics except the spend money part. It's a 7.2/10 for me.

Show You The Money Remix ft. Tyga ( prod. Shizzi)
AFM RATING: 5.1/10

I was so disappointed when I heard the remix. Although he is a good rapper, Tyga profusely ruined the remix and rendered me peeved to the detriment of my expectations. It's a 5.1/10 for me.

Murda ft. Wale ( prod. Maleek Berry)
AFM RATING: 8.4/10

I'm proud of this track. Wale did the beat justice. Everything right. Nevertheless Wizkid's lyrics where a bit predictable. It's a 8.4/10 for the production.

Bonus track: Caro ft. L.A.X

AFM RATING: 8.3/10

…. Got all the men looking for Caro when Ada Ada is still home waiting. It's an 8.3/10 for me.

The Album was definitely worth the wait. Wizkid did choose his production team very well and I credit him for it. Anyone who tells you this album is bad clearly hasn't listened to it carefully.

What do you personally think of it?
